The club was formed in 1926 and has enjoyed success throughout the decades.
In particular during the 13 year period from 1955 to 1968, the ultimate of a senior premiership was achieved a remarkable 8 times.
In 1970 due to player and committee shortages the club went into recess, but unlike many clubs in Tasmania and Australia for that matter the Hillwood Football Club was able to reform in 1980.
Michael Pridmore, Karen & Danny Peet, Alan Maher, Tony Hodges, Norma & Brian Wheldon, Peter Grachan, Jeff Donnelly, Alf Waters and Gerry Seymour filled executive positions in the first 3 years of reformation and with many local volunteers and committee were able to form a basis for the success and continued improvements of the club to the present day.
After the reforming of the club it progressively improved and played in 2 senior grand finals and a number of minor finals in the first 10 years which was a catalyst for the success of the club to win 7 club premierships from 1990 to the present.
A major setback in this period was in 2010 when a fire occurred in the club rooms which completely destroyed the facilities but due to the resilience of the committee, players and members were able to complete the season and rebuild to the excellent structure we have today. (A future article “The Fire” will be detailed later in the year)
The club has survived, competed and excelled due to the country ,family atmosphere it has created and the great local support of many people. Of course logistically you can’t name everyone who has been involved but it is relevant to mention some long serving members who have held senior positions within the club since reforming in 1980
